Curio Secures Major NI Water Treatment Contract

Curio Group has secured a significant four-year service and maintenance contract with Northern Ireland Water, marking a pivotal moment in the region’s water treatment infrastructure development. This agreement, won through a competitive tender process, tasks Curio with delivering critical upgrades and support across multiple water treatment sites. The scope of work includes comprehensive site audits, spare parts provision, and ongoing maintenance, with a particular focus on ozone generators—key components in the disinfection and treatment of drinking water.

The contract encompasses both the maintenance of existing ozone systems and the installation of new equipment, aligning with Northern Ireland Water’s broader initiative to enhance water treatment processes. This move is not just about upgrading infrastructure but also about ensuring the reliability and state-of-the-art capability of water treatment systems across the region.

Howard Marles, CEO of Curio Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We’re delighted to be working with Northern Ireland Water over the next four years to upgrade and maintain its water treatment infrastructure. Our ambition is to keep the company at the forefront of the latest technology and innovation in the water industry, helping them maintain high water quality standards as economically as possible.” This sentiment underscores Curio’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to drive efficiency and quality in water treatment.

Sam Adams, NI Water Project Manager, highlighted the rigorous selection process that led to Curio’s award, saying, “Curio Group has been awarded these service and maintenance contracts following a meticulous selection process. We look forward to working closely with their team to upgrade and maintain our ozone disinfection processes. We hope to benefit from the extensive knowledge and experience Curio has accumulated through working with other major UK water companies.” This collaboration is expected to bring valuable expertise to Northern Ireland Water, enhancing their operational capabilities.

The contract follows Curio’s strategic partnership with German company Reinert-Ritz, which grants them exclusive distribution rights in the UK and Ireland for its products covering drinking and wastewater systems. This partnership is likely to further bolster Curio’s ability to deliver innovative solutions in the water sector.

This development could shape the future of the water, sanitation, and drainage sector by setting a precedent for how public utilities can partner with private companies to drive technological advancements and cost efficiencies. As Northern Ireland Water modernizes its infrastructure, other regions may look to similar models to upgrade their own systems, potentially sparking a wave of innovation and collaboration across the sector. The focus on ozone disinfection systems, in particular, highlights the growing importance of advanced treatment technologies in ensuring water safety and quality. This contract not only underscores the value of private-sector expertise in public infrastructure but also signals a broader trend toward leveraging global partnerships to bring cutting-edge solutions to local challenges.
