Smartvatten Acquires LeakLook for Sustainable Water Management

Smartvatten, a European leader in sustainable digital water management, has acquired LeakLook, a Finnish innovator in submetering and IoT-enabled water monitoring for real estate. This strategic move aims to create a unified platform to meet the growing complexities of sustainable water use across Europe.

The acquisition integrates LeakLook’s expertise in IoT and AI analytics into Smartvatten’s global team of 150 water experts. Together, they monitor real-time water flows at over 40,000 properties in more than 30 countries, marking one of the largest deals in Europe’s water monitoring and analytics market for commercial real estate.

Petter Quinsgaard, CEO of Smartvatten, emphasized the shared mission: “This merger brings together two companies aligned by a shared mission: to enable the most efficient use of water through scalable, digital solutions, helping to reduce pressure on the world´s increasingly scarce water resources. Together with LeakLook, we are not just growing in scale—we are deepening our ability to serve customers with an even broader range of advanced solutions and services.” The combined capabilities will enhance smarter water management for property owners, building operators, and tenants.

The integrated team will focus on developing next-generation IoT-enabled water monitoring devices and AI-powered analytics to proactively identify leaks, inefficiencies, and irregularities in water usage. This development addresses Europe’s pressing challenges of water scarcity and rising water prices.

LeakLook’s solutions will now be introduced across Europe through Smartvatten’s established sales, support, and partner network. This expansion targets commercial and residential real estate markets, water utilities seeking advanced insights, and insurers aiming to reduce risk exposure to property damage.

Quinsgaard added: “This acquisition is about more than expanding our footprint—it’s about shaping the future of sustainable water management. By bringing together the strengths of both companies, we’re building a platform that can scale with the evolving demands of our customers while driving real environmental progress. The operational efficiencies we unlock will be reinvested directly into the areas that matter most: product innovation, customer support, and service excellence.”

Karl Sandelin, CEO of LeakLook, highlighted the benefits of the merger: “Joining forces with Smartvatten allows us to elevate our impact far beyond what we could achieve alone. Together, we’re not only creating a stronger technical offering, but a truly customer-centric ecosystem that’s ready for the future. Our clients will benefit from faster response times, wider solution coverage, and from our expertise in smart IoT network solutions, which deliver genuine long-term value.”

Jarkko Mäkivaara, Chairman of LeakLook, echoed this sentiment: “As Founder, I see this as the ideal next chapter in our journey. Smartvatten’s culture and technological strengths mirror our own, and together we can create solutions that go beyond what any company has delivered before. Together with our owners, we believe this partnership is the right choice — a natural continuation of our mission, now with greater reach and resources.”

This acquisition signals a significant shift in the water management sector, emphasizing the need for scalable, digital solutions to address water scarcity and inefficiencies. The merger could set a new standard for sustainable water management, influencing how property owners, utilities, and insurers approach water monitoring and conservation.
