Power Plastics, a Yorkshire-based manufacturer, has secured a renewed five-year approval from the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. This approval, under Regulation 31(4)(a) of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016 and 2010 (Wales), permits the use of its Baffle Curtains in public water supplies across the UK and Northern Ireland. This makes Power Plastics the sole UK manufacturer with Regulation 31(4)(a) approval for both the materials used in its drinking water products and its fully assembled Baffle Curtain system.
The Baffle Curtains, widely adopted by UK water utilities, are instrumental in maintaining optimal water quality within potable water storage tanks. This renewed approval underscores Power Plastics’ commitment to delivering high-quality, compliant solutions that support the effective management of drinking water supplies.
Phil Sellers, Technical Director of Power Plastics, expressed his delight at the extension, stating, “We are delighted to have extended approval for both our Baffle Curtain system and the materials used in our drinking water product range, through to the end of 2029. This achievement reinforces our reputation as a trusted partner to the UK water industry and our steadfast commitment to delivering high-quality, compliant solutions that support the effective management of drinking water supplies.”
Beyond Baffle Curtains, Power Plastics offers a broad range of innovative products for the waste and water industry, including odour control covers, removable tank covers, and sludge cones.
This development could shape the sector by setting a precedent for other manufacturers to follow, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive approvals for both materials and fully assembled systems. It also highlights the growing recognition of innovative solutions in maintaining water quality, potentially driving further advancements in the field. The sector may see increased collaboration between manufacturers and water utilities, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and compliance.
