Curio Water has struck a strategic partnership with SKion Water and up2e! to introduce its Roturi® ozonation technology to the UK and Ireland markets. This move could significantly reshape the water treatment landscape, particularly in the realm of micropollutant removal.
The Roturi® system, a German-engineered inline gas transfer solution, stands out for its ability to dissolve gases like ozone into liquid streams efficiently. Unlike conventional technologies that depend on high pressure or large reaction basins, Roturi® leverages a compact design to create a substantial reaction surface. This innovation achieves finely dispersed gas dissolution within the main pipeline, resulting in highly efficient transfer with lower energy demand and reduced gas consumption.
Curio Water emphasizes that Roturi® can be seamlessly integrated into existing systems or retrofitted, making it an attractive option for companies aiming to address micropollutants at water treatment sites across the UK. This partnership designates Curio as the sole trading partner for Roturi®-based ozonisation technology in the UK and Ireland. Under the agreement, Curio will manage testing, demonstration, and deployment of the technology, supported by up2e!’s technical expertise and SKion Water’s global network. Collaboration with Cranfield University and UK water sector partners will further validate the technology in real-world applications. up2e! will provide equipment, training, and marketing support to ensure successful integration.
Howard Marles, Chief Executive of Curio Water, highlighted the potential impact of the Roturi® system: “The Roturi® system is a game changer for the UK’s water industry when it comes to tackling micropollutants. Many gas-mass transfer technologies have a high energy demand, big gas losses and require large reaction basins. This compact and highly innovative system offers an efficient, scalable, and cost-effective ozonisation process combined with a very small footprint. We hope that in bringing this technology to the UK market, we can help companies planning to meet tighter environmental standards around micropollutant removal while lowering long term costs and improving operational efficiency.”
Wolfgang Neuhaus and Ulla Poeschl, Managing Partners of up2e! GmbH, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “Roturi® has proven its efficiency and reliability in various industries around the globe, improving gas-liquid mass transfer with less ozone and smaller reactors. We are excited to partner with Curio, who will bring the right expertise to different sites across the UK and ensure its effective deployment in tackling micropollutants.”
This collaboration could spur a shift towards more energy-efficient and cost-effective water treatment solutions in the UK. As environmental standards tighten, the demand for innovative technologies like Roturi® is likely to grow, potentially setting a new benchmark for micropollutant removal in the water sector. The partnership also underscores the importance of international collaboration in driving technological advancements and addressing global water challenges.
