Blackrock Silver Secures Key Permit for Tonopah West Project

Blackrock Silver has taken a significant step forward in the development of its Tonopah West mineral project, securing a Class II Air Quality and Surface Disturbance Permit. Issued by the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection through the Bureau of Air Pollution Control, this permit is the first of three crucial approvals needed for the project’s advancement. It allows for surface disturbance of up to 150 acres (60.7 hectares) at Tonopah West, with a strong emphasis on effective dust control measures to prevent airborne particulate matter.

The permit’s validity extends for five years, with provisions for extension and modification as the project progresses. This flexibility is essential as the project moves towards permitting and planned exploration activities, including decline, test mining, and bulk sample extraction. Blackrock Silver is currently focused on collecting hydrogeological and geochemical data, which are vital for obtaining the Water Pollution Control Permit. Five humidity cells are being utilized to assess the acid-generating potential of waste and mineralised lithologies expected during tunnelling and the construction of the exploration decline. These studies also include stockpiles for mineralised material extracted as part of the bulk sample programme.

The hydrogeological studies aim to evaluate groundwater dynamics, assessing flow and volume management needs during test mining phases. Engineering designs for waste dumps, stockpiles, and portal entries are progressing on schedule. These designs will inform surface disturbance calculations critical for the Nevada Reclamation Permit modification. The overall permitting process remains on track, with all necessary approvals projected by mid-2027. Upon securing these permits, Blackrock Silver will decide whether to proceed with exploration decline and associated mining activities at the site.

Last month, the company began deploying drill rigs for two resource expansion drilling initiatives at the Tonopah West project. This move underscores the company’s commitment to advancing the project while adhering to environmental regulations. As Blackrock Silver navigates the complexities of permitting and exploration, the company’s strategic approach and adherence to environmental standards will be key to its success. The Tonopah West project exemplifies the delicate balance between mineral exploration and environmental stewardship, setting a precedent for future mining ventures in the region.
